Who are we?

Chartered on April 25, 1955, Tampa Toastmasters is the oldest club in the Tampa area and the second oldest club on the west coast of Florida. We are approximately 45 men and women ranging in age from those in their twenties to members in their eighties. Some of us were raised in Hong Kong, India, Brazil,

France, Bulgaria, and Syria

while others grew up in Tampa. All of us joined Toastmasters to gain the skills necessary to effectively communicate with others.

What is Toastmasters?

In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, USA, forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” This group took the name "Toastmasters”. Now there are more than 250,000 members in 106 countries. Our club is one of more than 12,000 clubs around the world.

How does it work?

At Tampa Toastmasters, members learn by speaking, evaluating others, delivering speeches and conducting meetings. All of the new members are encouraged to follow two basic manuals, Competent Leadership and Competent Communication; that provide the framework for a self-paced program of constructive feedback and encouragement. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort, later you’ll be applauded for your skills.

When and where do we meet?

We meet every Monday night from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (except Holidays) at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery located at 612 N. Dale Mabry Hwy,Tampa, Fl 33609

We appreciate your visit to our club. All you have to do is to show up to have fun. No appointment is needed.

What’s in it for you?

The first premise of Toastmasters is that people learn in moments of pleasure. Our meetings are fast paced, high energy, proactive events. Never boring, never dull, always stimulating. Even though the same structure is followed each week, no two meetings are the same. Visit us as a guest, you can sit back and observe or participate. It’s up to you. At the conclusion of the meeting, we ask only that you share your impressions of the evening with us. Toastmasters is an inexpensive way to overcome the anxiety of public speaking, to become more confident in front of an audience and to help you become a better leader.
